Arranging the Funeral

When a loved one passes away certain practical steps need to be taken at an early stage, unfortunately at a time when family and close friends are suffering from shock and emotional stress. It is a time when careful guidance and advice is needed most, a time to express personal wishes and to make sure that every detail, large and small, has been considered and attended to.

It is often a comfort to be offered professional support and our staff are available on a 24 hour basis to provide that service.

From the time you first contact us, to the time when all arrangements are completed, we assure you of complete confidentiality, personal care and a genuine desire to look after your every wish to the very highest standards.

It is advisable to get in touch early so that we can explain all the necessary procedures step by step, especially regarding registration. We offer a 24 hour personal telephone service for such information. Full arrangements may then be made at a convenient time either at our offices in Portadown or Lurgan, or if preferred, at your home. It may be that particular wishes for a person’s funeral have been expressed prior to death in a conversation, in a will or pre-paid or arranged Funeral Plan.

Details of Pre-Paid Funeral Plans can be obtained here.

Alternatively, you may be unclear as to what might be appropriate. We will discuss with you all the options available. Whether your wishes are elaborate or simple, your choice will always be respected. When making arrangements many practical details need to be discussed.

The list below is by no means exhaustive and you are invited to contact us directly for any advice you feel is required.

On the day of the funeral an experienced funeral director will be in attendance throughout to ensure all arrangements are completed as requested.

Eco-friendly

Recently we have been called upon to carry out a number of “Eco friendly” funerals. These have become known as “Green funerals.” We have access to a number of styles of willow, banana leaf and hyacinth coffins and are happy to discuss your requirements.

Repatriation

Overseas funerals are also a necessity from time to time and Milne Funeral Services have been involved in arranging funerals in China, Zambia, Australasia and throughout Europe, with repatriations from many countries also taken care of.

Babies & Infants

On occasions we are called upon to look after the arrangements for babies and infant children. During these times, in particular, families will experience extreme emotion. Our staff provide a sensitive, caring and compassionate support throughout this very difficult and at times disturbing period. All proceedings will be conducted with the utmost dignity and respect.

Embalming

As Funeral Service Professionals, we recognise our Families have only one opportunity to honour and respect the wishes of their loved one at a most difficult time. We regard viewing and spending time with a loved one at their home, at the funeral home or other place of choice prior to their funeral, as the most personal way to say “Goodbye”, however, we at all times fully respect the personal wishes of the Deceased and their Family throughout the arrangement process.

We deem it necessary to provide a “holistic” care service, one which fulfills every need and request made by the deceased and their family in our endeavour to assist the provision of contenting last memories.
