On Tuesday evening Andrew joined with independent funeral directors in the Dunsilly Hotel for the SAIF Northern Ireland AGM.
The Society of Allied Independent Funeral Directors are a UK based trade body who promote industry standards and the betterment of Funeral Directors.
SAIF Scotland and Northern Ireland President Decland Maguire of Anderson and Maguire, Glasgow chaired the meeting.
A very informative night including SAIF’s progress in education events and assisting the Scottish government and funeral directors with the introduction and implantation of new statutory regulations, aimed at setting a minimum standard for all funeral directors and safeguarding deceased and their relatives.
The Funeral Solution Expert (FSE) ‘What is the real cost of a Funeral in the UK report 2025’ was discussed at length, this data taken from 6000 people shows a great insight into current trends and allows funeral directors to see how best to assist families in the future. Direct Cremation has become a popular choice for many, and SAIF believes independent funeral directors have an important role in providing this service in a dignified, transparent way.
The meeting was closed by Declan Walsh, a representative of Humanists Northern Ireland whose presentation highlighted the ever-growing need for Celebrants and alternatives to traditional religious services, he spoke at length about his insights in people focused services and how those he helps find great comfort in the personal services a Celebrant can provide.
